“Hello LFLA! My name is Heaven Spears, and I gladly started here in January as a new freshman Reading and Writing Seminar/English I teacher. I went to high school in a really small town of five thousand people in central Illinois, so there really wasn’t too much for us to do. Luckily, I was a huge book worm and read everything I could get my hands on at this age to stay out of trouble. As a freshman, I especially enjoyed reading Stephen King and the Harry Potter series, both of which I still read today.  I was the same age as Harry when I started reading the books, which is probably why I feel such a deep connection to the story and characters; as they grew up, so did I.  I vividly remember standing in line at the special midnight release to get my copy of the seventh book and feeling a pang of sadness that it would be the last time I would do so, as it was the last in the series.  Some people may say that I am just sentimental, but I think it is a testament to the power of well-told stories.  I have always loved to read, and I think it’s safe to say I always will.”

“This would be me when I was in first grade, and my favorite books to read were The Babysitters Club.

Now that I am older my favorite books are non-fiction.  I love to read true crime and war books.  I think my favorite book this year, so far, is  The American Sniper!    I read American Sniper first and then started asking my nephew some questions because he was a Marine during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He then told me about a book that his Commander wrote called Joker One!  Some days I wish I wouldn’t have read Joker One because now I have a lot of insight on what my nephew went through during those times.  It just really opened my eyes to know exactly what he went through so I would have to say that Joker One is NOW one of my favorite books!!!!  Thanks for all of your hard work and everything you do, Ms. Parker!  We love ya!!!!!!!!!!”
