Troy by Adele Geras

290090-_uy200_Do you like story’s that is filled with love and war and a hint drama and hate. Two sisters will try to live in a world of love and when Aphrodite is not a good person. It is almost like Rick Rordan but it is more about Aphrodite. This Greek book really happens in time but some of it is fake. Beware the drama and confusion with the characters because me personally I had a hard times with the names at first but when I got used to it I finally got all the names right with the characters. Then this book has drama for girls and blood and war for boys. This book I would give it a 5 because of the drama and confusion in it. It is for girls and boys that like drama and war.

The Mighty Miss Malone By Christopher P.

the mighy miss maloneRecommended By Stacy V.

The Mighty Miss Malone is a very interesting book. Deza Malone is one of the smarties in her class. She isn’t like any other ordinary girl. Deza is hard working and never backs down on what she believes. This book reminds me of Miss Pittman Jane. They both are strong and don’t back down. This book is unique and it stands out because Deza is very unique. Deza is smart and since this was back in the day there wasn’t really any smart African American people. I think that if you take your time to read and visualize that your in the story than it will be better. I give this book five out of five stars. You should read this book if you like historical books and books smart and brave people.

Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis

Bud,_Not_Buddy book coverRecommended by Aubrey A.

Have you ever went a week without your mother? This book is about a ten-year-old boy who is motherless and on the run. But he’s on a mission. His mother never told him who his father was. The thing that makes “Bud, Not Buddy” stand out is how the boy traveled by himself. You wouldn’t expect this book to be about a boy traveling so many places by himself. I would give “Bud, Not Buddy” 5 out of 5 stars. You should read this book if you like emotional things.

Michael Jordan: The Life by Roland Lazenby

mj the lifeRecommended by Tonio M. (winner Dominos gift card)

This is a great book to read if you really love basketball. This about the greatest player whoever played basketball. It talks about him being in the NBA and the games he played like the “Flu Game” he played with the flu and won for his team, the “Last Shot” and “The Shrug.” This book reminds me of the movie “Space Jam” in which Michael Jordan helped other people win basketball games to go to the championship. I love this book because I play basketball and he made history so reading this book motivates you to go harder in the game and to try to make it to the NBA like he did. I would only read this book if you play basketball or like Michael Jordan. I give this 4 stars and athletes should read this.

Copper Sun by Sharon Draper

cooper sun book coverRecommended by Victoria W.

Have you ever been in a very bad situation and always somehow see only the good in it?
“Copper Sun” is about how a little girl named Ameri’s home in Africa was invaded by what they call “strangers,” but they are just Cartesian people. Anyway they basically killed her whole family and her entire village. Only she and a handfull of people survived. From that day on Ameri’s life was filled with rainy days, tears, and fear. There were some days that were filled with joy.  No matter how bad everything got she remembered what her mother told her and saw the good in everything and everyone.
This book reminds me of one of my close friends because whenever something got bad she always saw the bright side of the situation.
This book is unique because its very interesting to read; it catches your attention all the way through and makes you want to read more and more.
I don’t have any advice just read the book because I know you’ll love it was much as i did.
I would give this book a 10.

George Washington Carver by Jill Wheeler

gwcRecommended by Kameron H. (Winner of Jimmy John’s)

Do you like reading about famous people? Well here’s one for you. In George Washington Carver, you can read all about his accomplishments and his family. Do you have a famous person in history or an inventor in history? If you do, you should read about one of the greatest people in history: George Washington Carver. George Washington Carver reminds me of other scientists in history, like Thomas Edison. The thing that makes this book stand out is when you read it, you can visualize the life he grew up in, and predict what will make him a brilliant inventor. At first, I did think it was going to be boring, but then it got really interesting at the moment. I would give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. You should read this book if you like to read about biographies about inventors in history.

The Help by KATHRYN STOCKETT

the help

Recommended by Ebony W. (Winner Domino’s Pizza Gift Card)

The book The Help is very interesting, and you can learn a lot. It is very historical and shows how good people get treated for being such a help. Also, this book is so interesting because it is about a maid taking her job very seriously. She really cares and she gives her all in everything she does. It’s really a copy of history and how people worked in the year of 1962. The show that reminds me of The Help is the movie Roots, because when people were able to work they worked hard to get all the money they needed to pay all of their expenses. The Help stands out because she is raising a child that really is not hers, but she cares about Mae Mobley more than her own mother does. Also, she breaks her break to follow Miss Leefolts rules so everything can meet her expectations. This book is a life lesson. I learned a lot by only reading the first 20 pages. I also learned that it was hard back then and Caucasian people were not as bad as they seemed. This is a historical fiction book, you would love this book because its about the rights people earned from their ancestors breaking the rules. This is such a great book you should check it out after me!
