“Mommy!” Corey cried, his voice high and panicky for the first time. With Basketball action, a murder mystery, a compelling story from history, racial and parental tension, Alphin offers something to please most young readers. Homeboys because it’s very funny and interesting and also an way to explain how some people life is or was. The thing that makes The Perfect Shot stand out is how it is a interesting mystery. You will probably find a book like this but not often because it’s a mystery and sports books. The thing that makes The Perfect Shot was just about someone make an important shot in a game, but it’s really about how this boy is playing basketball because of a bad memory. I would give this book 4 out of 5. You should read this book if you like sports and mystery books.

This is a great book to read if you really love basketball. This about the greatest player whoever played basketball. It talks about him being in the NBA and the games he played like the “Flu Game” he played with the flu and won for his team, the “Last Shot” and “The Shrug.” This book reminds me of the movie “Space Jam” in which Michael Jordan helped other people win basketball games to go to the championship. I love this book because I play basketball and he made history so reading this book motivates you to go harder in the game and to try to make it to the NBA like he did. I would only read this book if you play basketball or like Michael Jordan. I give this 4 stars and athletes should read this.

Do you know anyone that has been dealt a bad hand in life? It can be tough watching him or her struggle, knowing that it wasn’t his or her fault. In Tim Green’s Unstoppable, Harrison Johnson, a 13-year-old foster child, is in the process of being adopted by a horrible family when something happens that alters his future. Harrison is quickly placed into another home with a nice couple, which makes him question if his new life can really be this good. With his foster father being a football coach and him wanting to play, he joins the team, but his life will never be the same. This book is about a foster child, like One for the Murphys by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, but it goes down a road where unbelievable strength and hope is necessary for survival. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars due to Green’s ability to reveal the amount of courage needed to beat overwhelming odds. If you wanted to find a role model for inspiration, then Harrison in Unstoppable can be that guy.

If you like baseball, you watch it, and you play it, this book is for you. The Big Field, which is a New York Times Bestseller, is by my favorite author, Mike Lupica. This book is about Hutch, a shortstop who watched his own father play the game professionally. Hutch loved his father so he got a feeling to play the game he loves to play. This reminds me of when I played baseball. I played baseball for Lift for Life Academy last season and I got my tooth knocked out of my head. To this day it’s crazy to have one tooth knocked out with a baseball and to walk with it. It’s cool. The Big Field stands out to me because it shows heart; “the Cardinals were in a 4-0 hole” then they came back and won 6-4. My advice to you is to see his journey and to believe in the team you’re on or with. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. You should read this book if you like baseball.
