Keesha’s House by Helen Frost

Recommended by Ashyrha D91vwquqpzyl

A warm welcoming environment where no matter what you have been through or what your sexuality is you are accepted to be who you were made to be. At Joe”s, Keesha has found a safe place to live, and other kids gravitate to her house when they just can’t make it on their own. This book reminds me of real life because the book brings real life situations into reality. The thing that makes it stand out is the way in which it is written and it doesn’t just focus on one character. You have to read it until the end because the ending is always the best part. I would give Keesha’s House a 5 out of 5 stars. You should read this book because not many books lately have told you about life as a teenager in high school and what we go through in life.

Kindness For Weakness by Shawn Goodman

kindness-for-weakness-shawn-goodman-book-coverThe title was the hook ” kindness For Weakness because it related to the story about the delinquent little boy. It is about a juvenile detention delinquent kid who’s always in trouble. The boy’s mom has a abusive boyfriend who drinks a lot. A brother name Louis who moved out because boyfriend. I could compare this book with a move and real life experiences. What make this book stand out is the cover of the book and what the book is about. Secrets in the Shadows by Anne Schraff

516gss5ddblHave you ever worried about so many things at one time? This book is about Roylin and he went out with this girl.He lied and told her he had a bunch of money, she wanted a very expensive necklace. Also one of his friends died and they tried to see if he was buried .He was not,he was gone. This book is like other Bluford Series books because they are all things that can really happen in reality. What makes this book so unique is people can relate to it a lot and you see how people feel. It wasn’t that interesting until the girl came to the school and that is where it really starts. I would give this book a 4 out of 5 .You should read this book if you worry about a lot of things.

God Help the Child by Toni Morrison

god-help_g4eozf“I have no idea what occupied him when I was at the office and I never asked. I thought it showed how much I trusted him- that it was him I was attracted to him, not what he did.” (Morrison, 62) In different point of views, God Help the Child tells the story Lula Ann trying to adjust between the present and her past. God Help the Child reminds me of Midnight: A Gangster Love Story by Sister Souljah because the main characters find ways to live through their problems. What makes God Help the Child so special is the fact that it captivates you from the very beginning. It gives you an issue and then flashbacks to show you what little things shape the truth. In God Help the Child, be mindful of the setting and the author’s choice of words. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. You should read this if you like dram and urban fiction.

The God Box by Alex Sanchez

thegodboxpb11Can somebody be gay AND a christian? Paul, a senior in a small town located in Texas, starts to question his faith as a new guy, Manuel, comes to town and heightens Paul’s strange feelings. As Paul gets to know Manuel, he starts to question his religion and himself. But, that’s not the only changes Manuel has started. This book kind of reminds me of Geography club. They both involve acceptance from peers, denied feelings, and a cool GSA( Gay Straight Alliance) It gives a different perspective of the bible in terms on where it stands on homosexuality. It changes believers and non-believers point of views. Listen to Evermore by Dan Stevens. It really sets the tone and makes you feel things. If it doesn’t work then you should be fine either way. 5 out of 5 stars.

Something like Hope by Shawn Goodman

something-like-hopeRecommended by Ashyrha D.

When life knocks you down you have to get right back up. Sometimes when your young you do dumb things but after a while you grow from it. Shavonne wants to change but never thought it was this hard. Something like Hope reminds me of real life situations that you are given but something you have to do alone. Some of the scenes will surprise you, you wouldn’t expect it to come out that way. It starts a little slow in my opinion but soon you’ll learn her struggle. I would give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars. You should read this book if you like Realistic drama/real life situations come to life in a book.

Bait By Alex Sanchez

About a boy who has personal problems. He has like some sort of mental illness in his life. His life has been very cruel. His life sometimes had been good, but not too good. He likes to cut his self which is dangerous. Bait reminds me off what had happened in Florida airport shooting. What makes this book unique is that it sometimes has a lot of sad things in it, it even has funny things. Once you really get into the book you will like it. it is so interesting that you don’t want to stop reading. I wish they had a 2nd Bait book. I would give this book 5 out of 5. You should read it because it is so interesting to read.
