Small-Town Brides by Janet Tronstad

small town brides book coverRecommended by Katie P.

How would you feel if the person you loved rejected your proposal and ran to get away from you and everything? Well, in “Small-Town Brides,” when her neighbor proposes a “practical” marriage, romantic Rene Mitchell throws the ring in his face. Fleeing Texas for Montana, Rene rides with trucker Clay Preston. Clay doesn’t believe in romance….until Rene changes his mind.

This book reminds me of “A Mule Hollow Match” by Debra Clopton because it’s about two women, romance, and broken hearts, but one woman’s cousin thinks that the guy who broke his cousin’s heart deserves whatever happens to him. The thing that makes “Small-Town Brides” stand out is that she felt like she couldn’t get married so she walked away. I thought the book started out a little confusing but after you’re into it, you never want to put the book down until you’re finished with it completely. I would give “Small-Town Brides” a 4 out of 5 stars. You should read this book if you like reading about a woman who leaves the man wholoves her for the road and a guy she met on the road.

“You don’t get to choose if you get hurt in this world..but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices.- Oh I wouldn’t mind Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you.”

The Fault in Our Stars is an amazing book. It tells the love story of two teenage kids, Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters, who’ve both had run-ins with cancer. It’s so hard to put the book down. The story is so heart touching you feel as if you were one of the characters. After reading this book you will truly feel different and look at certain things in life totally differently. The Fault in Our Stars reminds me of My Sister’s Keeper because both books tell the story of a strong relationship between two teens and someone has cancer. The Fault in Our Stars stands out because, although the teens deal with such huge problems, they can still make you smile and laugh. Everything about this book just pulls you in. You will love this book from the first page to the last page. It will leave you wanting more. You’ll want to know life after. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars, the most perfect book to ever be written. You should read it if you’re a hopeless romantic like myself. You’ll fall in love with this love story.

A Raisin in the Sun by Lorriane Hansberry

What would you do if you got an check for $10,000? A small family from the south side of Chicago living in a small house received such a check. They’re faced with different complications and disagreements and they wonder what to do next. A Raisin in the Sun reminds me of other cities because most cities are segregated like Chicago. This books stands out to me because a lot of families are going through what they are with disagreements, not knowing what to do next, and DEATH. I encourage everyone to read this book and watch the play because you will enjoy it. I would give this book a 5 out of 5 stars. You should read this book if you like.

Teenage Love Affair by Ni-Ni Simone

Zsa has been through a lot, starting off with her abusive boyfriend, Ameen, and ending when she reunites with her ex-boyfriend Malachi.

To start off when Zsa was young she had a boyfriend name Malachi, that she liked so much and out of no where Malachi and his family moved away without warning anyone. Then Malachi return years later, and the bad thing is that Zsa has a boyfriend and starts to fall for Malachi again. One thing that keeps making her fall for him is that he is always there when she feels upset about how wrong Ameen has done her, but Zsa still loves them. She loves them both! Read and find out what will happen.

This story reminds me of alot of Tyler Perry Movies. The reason why i say this is because in Tyler Perry movies they’re real life situation and this book is like a real life situation. This book can also help people by giving good advices and also how to not or how to handle a situation. Giving Teenage Love Affair a rate out of five stars i would give it a 5 out of 5. The reason why i said this is because this book is very interesting and once you read one chapter you just can’t put it down.

November Blues by Sharon Draper

If you want to read a book that can relate to most teens of this generation, then this is the book for you. This book tells the story of a girl who just lost her boyfriend to a tragic death. This death really hurt her until she finds out she pregnant and has to go through this alone. But to top it all off the boy’s parents want to take the baby. November must face challenges a teenager wouldn’t even dream of. November has to make the biggest decision of her life. This book reminds me of a movie you would watch on Lifetime because it has drama and tragedy that most people face everyday. This book is a must-read and it stands out from most books in my opinion because a high school student who has to go through so much and still lands on her feet is something I think everyone wants to read. This book gives a positive message that even if something tragic happens you can still get through it. I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5.

The Skin I’m In by Sharon Flake

the skin i'm in book coverRecommended by Bre’anna L.

If you were teased for being darker than others inside your own community, would you love yourself enough to ignore your low-self esteem and their ignorance?
Throughout the years of her growing up, seventh grader Maleeka Madison has low-self esteem because of her dark skin color and others’ ignorance. The book Skinny reminds me of The Skin I’m In because both books deal with low-self esteem issues, where one happens to be a seventh grader and the other is in college. The thing that makes “The Skin I’m In” unique is that it’s funny and the young lady is very strong despite everything that hurts her. You would expect for her to cry a lot and be depressed but she’s not. I thought that The Skin I’m In was very interesting and it has parts in the book where it makes you laugh but is very relatable to the everyday girl. I give The Skin I’m In a 5 out of 5 stars. You should read this book if you love relatable books , fiction and moving stories.
